Scenes from Europe #4
Posted in Everything, Illustration | Comments Offever notice how the most memorable people at a social gathering are the ones drunk off their butts?
I met Mini while staying at the Archi Rosi hostel in Florence. Mini was having a good night. a very good night. He and his friends from Mexico were pounding back beers like there was no tomorrow. now I have a few problems with this particular scenario. 1) I’m generally against binge drinking. 2) if you’re in Italy, why would you possibly drink overpriced and underflavored imported beer when there is a wonderful selection of INCREDIBLE tasting wine throughout the country that’ll do the job a whole lot faster?
so Katie and I walk into the lounge and Mini, in his artificially-induced friendliness, comes to introduce himself. He says “My name is Mini. Have you seen Austin Powers? Like Mini-Me. you can call me Mini-Me. Just say ‘Mini-Me’ and I’ll come running!” he then points to each individual in the entire lounge (roughly 30 people) and gives their name AND favorite sports team. now, this was an impressive display of memory for one so inebriated. I congratulated him, told him I was impressed and send him on his way.
there comes a point when the brain, in an effort to save as many oxygen-deprived braincells as possible, stops making new memories. I met Mini-Mi about 30 seconds too late. over the next 20 minutes, he proceeded to re-introduce himself and the rest of the lounge 4 more times. I sincerely appreciate his efforts to make me feel welcome while simultaneously laugh at his utter ridiculousness. I decided to immortalize him forever in cartoon form.

Scenes from Europe #1
Posted in Everything, Illustration | Comments Offso while I was in Europe I did some sketches of the crazy weird people I often ran into. Undoubtedly the weirdest guy I met is the one I didn’t sketch (more on that story later). Below is part 1 of 6.
This particular woman I met whilst on the subway. She was just chillin’ a few seats away from me for a couple of minutes. she looked pretty average. brown hair, a little overweight, late-30’s maybe, and pulling some luggage behind her. tourist. ya know the type.
so she bends over her suitcase, fiddles around a bit and I start hearing french pop music. i take a closer look and her “suitcase” is really a giant speaker on wheels. weird. then she pulls out a microphone (which is plugged into her suitcase-speaker) and starts singing along. super-weird. the supposed tourist was really a street performer (metro-performer?). my public transportation to Paris came with a free Karaoke show.
BTW she was awful, and I gave her no monies. though the sight was moderately entertaining.

Portfolio Site – Finished!
Posted in Everything, Senior Project | Comments Offor as finished as I can make it during these incredibly hectic last few weeks of school. it’s nothing super-special but it gets the job done. Hopefully it’ll help me land some work. though I’m not sure this blog is much of an asset. These posts make me sound like a lazy bum taking any shortcut possible. I swear it’s only partially true! Mainly I enjoy mock-apathetic slightly cynical dry humor.
eh well.
Also, I’m taking a month-long trip to Europe starting Wednesday. YEAH! soo, no updates for a bit.

The Lottery
Posted in Everything, Illustration | Comments OffThe last of my Illustration assignments. This one based off the short story ‘The Lottery’ by Shirley Jackson. Definitely worth the read if you have an extra 10 minutes.
Chances are this is the last illustration you’ll be seeing for a while. I’ll be kickin’ it in Europe within 2 weeks and will NOT be updating.
